Dr. Natalie Ferrari, Family Physician – London, Ontario

My first thought about the capital gains taxes coming into place for professional corporations was worrying about my future and worrying about my family.

Physicians tend to incorporate under a professional corporation to, you know, save for their future. We don’t get a pension from the government. We don’t get benefits from the government.

My daughter is now one and I’m still recovering financially from being off those first six months. And I don’t even know how long it will take me to kind of get everything back going.

I think about that every day. About the financial cost of having another baby, having to interview another physician, find another physician to cover my practice.

How much time, financial can I afford to take? Will I be out of debt by the time, if I did get pregnant again? Or will it be, you know, accumulating more debt through the corporation?

Having to choose between family and working, and it is a very difficult choice.
