National Aboriginal Day – Today and every day
Ottawa, June 21, 2017 – As we mark National Aboriginal Day, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) would like to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of Canada’s Indigenous peoples.
National Aboriginal Day is a timely occasion to celebrate First Nations, Métis, and Inuit. It is the hope of the CMA that all Canadians can carry forward the spirit of today to build a better future for Canada’s Indigenous peoples. Let’s commit to learning more about Indigenous history, culture and contributions.
Throughout my 40-year career as a general practitioner I have learned so much from my First Nations patients and their families, including the power of resilience, the importance of family and community, and the essential components of wellness: mind, body, heart and spirit. Today as we celebrate the tremendous contributions and culture of Indigenous peoples, let’s turn our eyes to the future and commit to bringing about real and sustained change.
