Beyond self-care: Physician burnout and compassion fatigue — what works?

CMF education session

Françoise Mathieu, M.Ed., CCC, psychotherapist, compassion fatigue specialist

Research from the past decade has shown significant rates of compassion fatigue, burnout and secondary trauma among physicians. This session highlights five of the most effective tools to reduce these conditions in physicians.

Learning objectives

Participants will:

  • recognize the difference between burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary trauma; they will be provided with an assessment tool to gauge personal levels of all three
  • detect advance warning signs and contributing factors to compassion fatigue, and learn concrete steps to mitigate these
  • develop and apply best practices to address and reduce symptoms of fatigue — in the workplace and at home
