Overall job purpose:

Reporting to the Director of Content Strategy, within the Enterprise Marketing and Communications team, the senior advisor identifies, develops and creates compelling content showcasing the brand story of CMA for various channels. This position is responsible for developing editorial processes, identifying potential stories, writing, editing and coordinating materials to support key positioning objectives.

This position helps to create compelling content to support all facets of advocacy, policy and member engagement while also promoting the value of CMA as a thought leader, key influencer and strategic knowledge broker. To achieve this, this position will work as part of a storytelling hub, ensuring integrated content planning for multiple audiences and channels. This role will collaborate on the dissemination of content across traditional, digital and social platforms.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create compelling, innovative content to be used across traditional, digital and social channels, to heighten CMA’s visibility and understanding of our value proposition
  • Conduct interviews with physicians and stakeholders to create original, high impact content that highlights CMA’s policy and advocacy work, and showcase its impact
  • Promote a culture of storytelling through modelling and training
  • Develop and pitch compelling story ideas that help illustrate CMA’s policy and advocacy work
  • Develop a contact list of sources on health-related issues
  • Provide copy editing, revision and proof-reading expertise
  • Work effectively with colleagues across the organization to extract and communicate key messages from policy and research documents in order to promote the impact of the findings
  • Develop strong content in all formats (digital, print, online) to communicate with key CMA audiences (members, thought leaders, public, other audiences)

Additional skills required for the role:

  • Strong knowledge and command of English, French considered an asset
  • A solid understanding of content creation for the purposes of communications and marketing
  • Excellent writing skills required
  • Experience writing for a general audience (public)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe
  • Experience with creating digital assets (videos, infographics, web content) as well as some production experience (script writing, story boards, digital editing)
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex content documents to identify story telling angle and emphasis
  • Strong analytical, organizational and planning skills
  • Strategic thinking; creative and innovative
  • Excellent relationship management skills to interact with and engage all levels of staff including senior executives, internal subject-matter experts, advisors, and external vendors, and manage input and approvals to ensure timely, high-quality results
  • Good understanding of the healthcare industry and the medical association environment is an asset
  • Occasional travel may be required


  • University degree; B.A. in Communications or related field
