The CMA Foundation donates $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross
Ottawa, October 12, 2017 — The CMA Foundation is pleased to announce that it has made a donation of $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help it provide immediate and long-term disaster relief support.
“The CMA Foundation recognizes the important work done by the Canadian Red Cross, and the crucial support it provides to Canadians in times of disaster,” says Allison Seymour, CMA Foundation president. “This donation aligns with our vision and mission by helping the Canadian Red Cross to fund a number of initiatives, including providing support to Canadians affected by the wildfires in British Columbia, and ensuring the Canadian Red Cross has the resources it needs to prepare for future emergencies.”
The CMA Foundation’s focus is to support the causes physicians care about. Accordingly, a portion of the donation will go toward the Red Cross BC Fires Appeal, which helps Canadians affected by the wildfires in British Columbia in a number of ways. The donation will help ensure that the Canadian Red Cross can continue to provide ongoing support in BC. The remainder of the donation will help to fund the disaster management program at the Canadian Red Cross. In the same way that physicians play a crucial role when disasters strike, Red Cross disaster response teams are integral when a community is affected by a disaster, working alongside first responders to provide comfort and care for those who need it. The money will go toward providing emergency lodging after a personal disaster, maintaining a supply of basic needs including comfort hygiene kits, and training additional disaster response volunteers.
