This session will support physicians in building resilience to counteract burnout and stress affects within highly complex stress environments.

Learning objectives

In this session delegates will:

  • assess the unique stress-escalated properties of their work
  • recognize the relationship between the relative risk for systemic and traumatic stress, self-care strategies and stress-related outcomes
  • apply the Complex Stress Model of workplace stress, which incorporates the risk and resiliency factors for both system –based and traumatic stresses (direct and vicarious trauma)
  • evaluate the six key determinants of personal, professional and collegial resilience


This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for 14.5 credits. This program has been reviewed and approved by the University of Ottawa, Office of Continuing Professional Development.
