  • Choosing Wisely STARS Program: The CMA is a supporter of the Choosing Wisely Canada STARS (Students and Trainees Advocating for Stewardship) Program which is designed to foster awareness among Canadian students and residents about Choosing Wisely Canada.
  • CaRMS Interview Skills Prep Program: A free program for CMA medical student members to practice interview skills and learn tips and tricks from resident physicians.
  • Transition to Residency Guide: An annual guide to prepare CMA medical student members for residency, with info on managing expenses, insurance, the business side of medicine, wellness, ways to get involved in advocacy and more.
  • Canadian specialty profiles: Information on Canadian physicians including workload, income and satisfaction, as well as data on educational requirements, supply and demographics.
  • Advocacy Skills Coaching: Training to help medical students and groups of physicians hone their advocacy skills.
  • Practice Management Curriculum (PMC): A program to prepare residents to transition to practice through physician-led seminars at medical schools across Canada on topics such as evaluating practice opportunities, negotiating contracts, billing and practical tips.
  • New in Practice Guide: An annual Joule publication to prepare residents for the transition to practice, with info on evaluating practice opportunities, how physicians get paid, financial planning, medical law and more.
  • Student and Resident Leadership: The Physician Leadership Institute (PLI) offers a 50% course discount for resident physicians, as well as online self-led PLI courses for medical students and residents.
  • MD MedEd Counsel™: MD Financial Management has a team dedicated to medical students and residents, providing advice on debt payment vs. investing, consolidation of student loans, insurance, and more.

Continuing professional development

  • Physician Leadership Institute (PLI): Joule offers accredited continuing professional development solutions through over 20 unique PLI courses in a face-to-face and an online facilitated format. In addition, Joule offers a foundational online module on Medical Assistance in Dying as well as an advanced curriculum.
  • Canadian Medical Association Journal — CPD credits: As a benefit of membership, CMA members can earn Mainpro+ certified self-learning credits from the College of Family Physicians of Canada for completing an 'Impact assessment' after reading eligible CMAJ articles. Members can also obtain MOC (Section 2) credits from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) for reading articles in CMAJ; requests for credit should be submitted directly to RCPSC.
