CMA’s open letter to Ontario’s political party leaders

Health care has featured prominently in Ontario’s current provincial election campaign. The CMA took this opportunity to issue an open letter to Ontario’s political party leaders on May 25, in advance of the final leaders’ debate. In its letter, the CMA highlighted the issue of wait times — linking to the OMA’s #NotASecondLonger campaign — and the rising numbers of unmatched medical graduates. The CMA emphasized that both are provincial issues of national importance. The letter was posted to the CMA’s website and distributed on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook.

Healthy Canadians Grants application: Deadline is fast approaching

Last month the CMA — in partnership with the CMA Foundation — launched the Healthy Canadians Grants program to support community initiatives making a difference in the health of Canadians.

Under the theme of seniors’ wellness, this year’s grants will recognize community-led programs that benefit seniors, their families, and the physicians who care for them. Examples of initiatives include exercise, meal and transportation programs for seniors, as well as respite programs for caregivers.

The deadline to apply is June 22, 2018. Please click here for more information on grant criteria and application procedures. If you have any questions, contact the CMA Foundation at cmafoundation@cma.ca.

The Patient perspective: Call for nominations open for the CMA Patient Voice

At the CMA, ensuring a patient perspective is included in all our campaigns and strategies is a key part of our new Strategic Plan.

That’s why we’re so excited to launch an open call for our new CMA Patient Voice engagement group. The goal of the CMA Patient Voice is to bring an informed patient perspective to the CMA’s work, and to highlight emerging issues that matter to patients and the public.

We’re looking for 12 engaged patient representatives from across Canada to join us.

Are you interested in being a part of these conversations and influencing the future of the CMA? Do you know someone in your community who would be a vibrant addition to the CMA Patient Voice? Please visit cma.ca/patientvoice for more information, including the terms of reference, FAQ, and the code of conduct.

The deadline to apply is July 13, 2018.

This month’s DemandaPlan.ca updates

May was a busy month for Demand a Plan supporters. They had the chance to apply to the Health Summit’s patient sponsorship program, submit their seniors care project proposal for the Healthy Canadians Grants and apply to join the CMA Patient Voice. In the upcoming months, we’ll be looking to provide our supporters with even more opportunities.

Demand a Plan is the CMA’s campaign on seniors care. If you haven’t done so already, sign up here to support our call for a national seniors care strategy.
