Canadian Medical Association

Ottawa – May 3, 2018 – Today, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), in partnership with the CMA Foundation, is launching the Healthy Canadians Grants program, a grassroots initiative to support the CMA's vision of a vibrant profession and a healthy population. The program will provide funding to community-led initiatives that improve the quality of life of patients and people in vulnerable populations, and that contribute to an overall healthy community. The theme for this year's grants is seniors' wellness, an issue that continues to be a priority for the CMA.

The Healthy Canadians Grants program will provide a grant, through the CMA Foundation, in each Canadian province and territory, with an additional grant to a charity in the home province or territory of the current CMA president. Registered charities will be eligible to apply for the grants, and their applications must include a support letter from a local physician. The CMA Foundation will evaluate applications based on their fit with the theme, their impact on the community and their long-term feasibility.

"Throughout the country, there are countless programs that support our vision of building a healthy population," says CMA President Dr. Laurent Marcoux. "We're proud to partner with the CMA Foundation to invest in these innovative, grassroots health initiatives."

The deadline to apply for this year's Healthy Canadians Grants is June 22. Learn more about the program or submit your application by visiting the CMA Foundation website.

The CMA Foundation was created by the CMA, in partnership with its subsidiaries MD Financial Management and Joule™, to provide impactful charitable giving to registered Canadian charities that further excellence in health care.
