Canadian Medical Association

Ottawa – January 31, 2018 – The Canadian Medical Association, representing more than 85,000 physicians in Canada, is adding its voice to the group of organizations condemning the arrests of leaders of the Turkish Medical Association earlier this week:

"We support the statements made by our Turkish colleagues that war is a public health issue. It is disturbing that free speech can result in imprisonment for physicians who are expressing themselves to improve the health of their people. Free speech is a fundamental human right and physicians must be empowered to provide health knowledge without fear of reprisal."
