Died July 18, 2017, aged 85. Survived by his wife Alyce, 4 sons, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. "During his time at the Halifax Infirmary he was instrumental in establishing the hospital's Surgical Intensive Care Unit. He was also the first doctor at the hospital to use lumbar epidural anesthesia for obstetrical care. During his presidency of the CAS he learned French (at age 51) so that he could make the annual meeting address in both official languages."
