Survived by his wife, Dr. Dzintra Fernandez, 3 children and 2 grandchildren. “The Fernandez family moved to St. John’s in 1974, when Peter and Dzintra joined in the efforts of the newly formed medical school at Memorial University of Newfoundland. There, his work focused on the clinical and physiologic aspects of hypertension and the teaching of physicians. In 1990 he moved to St. Catharines, where he and his close friend and colleague, Dr. Peter Bolli, maintained a clinical practice in internal medicine. He saw patients and had many friends and colleagues at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Catharines General Hospital and Shaver Rehabilitation Centre. He had a lifelong passion for learning and clinical teaching, and taught many medical students from Memorial University and McMaster University over his 40 years spent practising medicine.”
