Dr. Geneviève Moineau is an internationally recognized expert in medical education and a beloved mentor for doctors across Canada.
In January 2023, Dr. Moineau was elected to the position of vice-president of the World Federation for Medical Education — making her the first woman to hold this position — where she is advocating for excellence in medical education worldwide. In August 2023, Dr. Moineau was appointed as chief medical workforce advisor for Health Canada, in support of the efforts to address the health workforce crisis.
Prior to this, she was president of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), representing the country’s 17 faculties of medicine. She also served as the vice-president of education at the AFMC and secretary to the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) and the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME).
Dr. Moineau has held numerous educational leadership roles, including as associate dean of undergraduate medical education at the University of Ottawa. Among her many accolades, perhaps the most meaningful to her are the honorary class president awards she has been given by many graduating medical classes — a testament to how she has positively contributed to doctors’ educational experiences.
After earning her medical degree at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Moineau completed her pediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. She is a professor in the department of pediatrics and emergency medicine at the University of Ottawa and has privileges in pediatric emergency medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
“Having positive role models in medicine is critical and has a ripple effect. Every person that has been positively influenced by Dr. Moineau passes those qualities along to others; I am positive that health care is significantly better off because of this. Her legacy is unparalleled and will be felt for decades to come.” — Dr. Lynn Ashdown, senior patient partner at the Ottawa Hospital
Dr. Geneviève Moineau is receiving the Dr. Léo Paul Landry Medal of Service Award for her exceptional contribution to the advancement of health care education.
