Canadian Medical Association

We're driving big change in health care and championing physician wellness. But we can't do it without you.

Your membership in the Canadian Medical Association matters. We need your ideas, expertise and support so we can continue to bring forward the physician voice on issue like:

'''

Access to care

We know Canadians are experiencing significant issues with access to care, and we’re taking the lead on improving access.

Informing health care planning

Health systems and human resource strategies need to adapt to the changing physician workforce. We produce regular physician workforce surveys to provide health care institutions and governments with accurate and up-to-date information on how physicians work.

Working with physicians to develop an action plan

In early 2020, we’re holding eight member forums across Canada to hear members’ ideas for improving access to care.

Scaling up virtual care

We've joined forces with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada to identify what changes are needed to scale up virtual care and to enable physicians to deliver care to patients within and across provincial and territorial boundaries.

Improving health equity

The CMA Foundation is funding grassroots initiatives that support vulnerable populations and build healthy communities across Canada with its Healthy Canadians Grants

Physician health and wellness

Physicians can’t care for others if they’re struggling themselves. We’re standing up for your health and wellness, to support the future of the medical profession and Canada’s health systems.

Finding the gaps

We’re identifying where gaps exist by compiling an analysis of physician wellness resources and supports across Canada, with a plan to consolidate and share these resources, research and innovations.

Taking the lead

As we identify the needs of Canadian physicians, we’re funding projects across Canada, in collaboration with MD Financial Management and Scotiabank, to build wellness supports for physicians.

Mobilizing wellness leaders

We gathered more than 325 physicians, students and stakeholders to learn about new programs and research on physician wellness at the 2019 Canadian Conference on Physician Health.

Innovation

Technology is changing the health care landscape. We’re committed to helping you adapt by supporting physician-led innovation, and the adoption of innovative technologies and services.

Creating a national conversation

The 2019 CMA Health Summit brought together more than 1,000 physicians, patients and policy-makers to examine how technology can help build stronger health care systems, communications and approaches to improving care. Twenty-seven speakers and panellists — a range of physicians, patients, policy-makers, innovators and regulators — presented a breadth of perspectives on reimagining medicine in the digital age.

Supporting physician-led advancements

Through its annual Innovation grant program, our subsidiary Joule is helping physicians make a positive impact in health care technology. In 2019, eight physicians and medical learners shared $200,000 in funding to develop or expand projects to advance innovation in health care.
