Canadian Medical Association

Within the context of the pandemic, it is timely to reaffirm the advocacy role of physicians as outlined in the CMA Code of Ethics and as recognized in both medical education and practice.

As physicians, we have a duty to provide the best possible care for our patients. We also have a responsibility to provide relevant, evidence-based information to decision-makers and the public.

With jurisdictions around the world scrambling in real-time to understand and respond to the pandemic, medical and scientific knowledge have never been more important to help guide decision-making and sound public health planning.

We need to protect and value the advocacy role of physicians as we all work together to counter the losses inflicted by COVID-19.
