The CMA is contacting up to 75 individuals and vendors to inform them of a privacy breach, following a malware incident impacting one CMA email account.

The CMA’s IT security system detected the issue, which involved emails from one account being redirected to an unknown Gmail account between Oct. 6 and 21, 2020. The information intercepted was primarily names and email addresses of members, non-members and vendors. In eight instances, more sensitive information was contained in the emails.

All affected individuals and vendors are being contacted to make them aware of the issue, and to share the CMA’s sincere apologies and mitigation support for the incident.

While our immediate activities are focused on notifying the impacted parties, we continue to upgrade our security measures and protocols to address an increasingly complex and sophisticated cybercrime environment.

Any members concerned about their information can contact our Member Service Centre at [email protected] or toll-free at 1-888-855-2555 (weekdays from 8 am to 8 pm EDT).
