More than 350 physicians attended this year’s Canadian Conference on Physician Leadership hosted by Joule and the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

On April 28 and 29, attendees from across the country listened and engaged with key note speakers: Peter BlockDr. Dike DrummondDr. Danielle Martin and Amanda Goodall, on various aspects of stewardship, physician-burn-out and the value of physician leadership.

Through deliberately designed workshops, conference attendees had the opportunity to discuss the practical skills required to engage with governments, health authorities and media as they pursue transformational health care change.

“In all of the discussions, what is overwhelmingly obvious is that physicians want change,” says Lindee David, CEO of Joule. “Not only do they want to see change, they want to lead it and are looking for ways to accelerate it.”

Despite the many challenges facing health care that were identified during the conference, attendees were exposed to alternative perspectives for leading through them—from encouraging rich and engaging conversations between unlike-minded individuals (Peter Block) to empowering patients to drive system-change (Dr. Danielle Martin), physician participants were presented with countless opportunities to help drive meaningful change in health care.

The conference experience was enhanced by six pre-conference courses including four from Joule’s Physician Leadership Institute including its newest—Physician leadership focus: Put unrelenting distractions in their place.

Joule and the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders would like to thank all event sponsors, speakers and attendees for another successful conference. The 2018 Canadian Conference on Physician Leadership will be held in Vancouver April 20-21, 2018. For more information please contact [email protected].
