In this piece from the Harvard Health Blog, Dr. Peter Grinspoon describes what physician burnout looks like and how it can affect patient care. Burnout among doctors often manifests as loss of enthusiasm for their work, declining satisfaction and joy, and increased detachment, emotional exhaustion and cynicism, resulting in disproportionately high rates of depression, substance abuse and suicide.
