Physician Well-Being 2.0: Where Are We and Where Are We Going?

Our understanding of physician well-being is evolving. In this article, Dr. Tait Shanafelt discusses historical and modern views of physician distress and the growing recognition of the importance of developing a culture of wellness in health care. He also outlines the work being done by vanguard organizations to accelerate progress on cultivating well-being in their workplaces. He concludes by recommending ways that the profession, organizations, leaders and individual physicians can accelerate the transition to the new era of physician wellness.
