Characteristics of successful and failed mentoring relationships: a qualitative study across two academic health centers

This article presents the common qualities of effective mentors and mentees, as well as the characteristics of successful and failed mentoring relationships. The information is based on interviews with faculty members at the University of Toronto and University of California. Characteristics of successful mentorship include mutual respect and personal connection, while the characteristics of failed mentorship include poor communication and lack of commitment.
