The evolving professional relationship between Canadian physicians and our health care system: Where do we stand?

This CMA policy paper discusses the current professional relationship between physicians and the health care system and provides recommendations for how physicians can participate actively in conversations about meaningful system transformation. It starts with a review of the concept of medical professionalism and examines the tensions that can arise between individual patient care and consideration of the broader needs of society.
