Canadian Medical Association

Together, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), Scotiabank and MD Financial Management (CMA) have pledged $115 million over 10 years to support the CMA’s vision of a vibrant medical profession and a healthy population, with a focus on physician health and wellness.

Physicians and medical learners are reporting higher levels of burnout and depression. The drive to serve patients, a rigid medical culture and complex health care systems are contributing factors. Although some wellness supports are available, physicians often have trouble accessing them.

In response, the CMA has strengthened its ongoing commitment to support the health and wellness of physicians, the medical profession and all Canadians who depend on them through an affinity agreement between the CMA, Scotiabank and MD. Together, we share a passion for change, and to build on the work of the CMA to address physician burnout with impact, immediacy and staying power.

"This is just incredible for us because with this money we can not only give information (about physician wellness), we can change culture. Collectively, we can get done in the next three years what it would probably have taken our current team another ten or twelve to do.”
- Dr. Jane Lemaire, Well Doc Alberta initiative
