Canadian Medical Association

We’re driving change in health care and championing physician wellness. But we can’t do it without you.

Your membership in the Canadian Medical Association matters. We need your ideas, expertise and support so we can continue to bring forward the physician voice on issues such as:

Access to care

We know Canadians face significant barriers getting the care they need. So, we’re taking the lead on improving access.

Scaling up virtual care

We joined forces with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada to identify a road map for enabling and expanding virtual care in Canada.

Informing health care planning

Health systems and human resource strategies need to adapt to the changing physician workforce. We produce regular physician workforce surveys to provide health care institutions and governments with accurate and up-to-date information on how physicians work.

Working with physicians to develop an action plan

In 2020, we held a series of member forums across Canada to hear your ideas for improving physician wellness and expanding access to care, and we’re using these insights to shape our work.

Physician health and wellness

Physicians can’t care for others if they’re struggling to care for themselves. We’re standing up for your health and wellness, to support the future of the medical profession and Canada’s health systems.

Taking the lead

As we identify the needs of Canadian physicians, we’re funding projects across Canada, in collaboration with MD Financial Management and Scotiabank, to build wellness supports for physicians.

Mobilizing wellness leaders

We brought more than 325 physicians, students and stakeholders together to learn about new programs and research on physician wellness at the 2019 Canadian Conference on Physician Health.

Promoting physician-led innovations

We’re offering $250,000 worth of funding for physician-led initiatives that promote health and wellness among physicians and medical learners through our Joule Innovation grant program.

Innovation

Technology is changing the health care landscape. We’re committed to helping you adapt by supporting physician-led innovation, and the adoption of innovative technologies and services.

Helping you transform your practice

We teamed up with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada to develop a Virtual Care Playbook, a guide to setting up virtual care in your practice.

Supporting physician-led advancements

Through its annual Innovation grant program, our subsidiary Joule is helping physicians make a positive impact on health care technology. In 2019, eight physicians and medical learners shared $200,000 in funding to develop or expand projects to advance innovation in health care.

Clinical tools

Keeping up with changes in health care research and innovation is challenging. Our subsidiary Joule offers members over $2,500 worth of the latest evidence-based clinical resources.
