Dr. Courtney Howard is an emergency physician in Yellowknives Dene Territory, in the Northwest Territories. She completed her medical training at the University of British Columbia and McGill University and has a Master of Public Policy from Oxford University.

Motivated by work on a Médecins sans frontières pediatric malnutrition project and the health impacts of climate change on her patients in Canada’s North, Dr. Howard has been doing research, policy work and advocacy at the intersection of the health of people and the planet for over a decade. An internationally recognized expert in planetary health, she serves on the editorial advisory boards of The Lancet Planetary Health and The Journal of Climate Change and Health. A former president of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, she is vice-chair of the Global Climate and Health Alliance.
